Will EURO 2020 only take place in the Netherlands?

Will EURO 2020 only take place in the Netherlands?

No, this edition of the European Football Championship will be played simultaneously in twelve countries, with each country having a playing city. This is because of UEFA's sixtieth anniversary. For the Netherlands, the playing city is Amsterdam. The other playing cities are Baku, Bilbao, Budapest, Bucharest, Dublin, Glasgow, Copenhagen, London, Munich, Rome and St. Petersburg.

If the Dutch national team places themselves, will they play in the Netherlands?

If the Dutch national team qualifies, they will play the first two or three matches in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. This depends on the draw and the game schedule. The Dutch national team will not play the potential eighth final in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Who can register for the City Host Volunteer Programme?

Anyone who is motivated and enthusiastic has the option to sign up for the City Host Volunteer Programme. You must meet at least the following requirements to be able to register as a City Host:

  • Be 16 years or older on June 12, 2020
  • Be available for a selection interview and training
  • Be available for at least four shifts between June 12 and July 12, 2020
  • Be available on at least one competition day
  • Be able to communicate in Dutch and English (from basic up to advanced level)

How many volunteers are needed for the City Host Volunteer Programme?

In total, around 1,200 volunteers will work within the City Host Volunteer Programme.

What does the schedule for volunteers look like?

  1. Register as a volunteer (from June 2019)
  2. Call for an interview (for some positions) (October - December 2019)
  3. Provide your specific availability and preferred role (January - March 2020)
  4. Come to the training sessions (April - May 2020)
  5. Receive your uniform (May 2020)
  6. Make EURO 2020 a success in Amsterdam (June 12 - July 12, 2020)

Is there a minimum and maximum age?

The minimum age to participate in the City Host Volunteer Programme is 16 years. You must have reached this age on June 12, 2020. There is no maximum age. Anyone who meets the requirements can register as a volunteer for the City Host Volunteer Programme. We encourage people with different ages, experiences and backgrounds to volunteer.

Yes, you do not have to live in Amsterdam to register.

Yes you can, but there are some conditions attached to this. If you come from a country that is part of the EEA or from Switzerland, you are eligible to perform volunteer work in the Netherlands. If you are from another country, you will need a work permit.

What is the difference between the City Host Volunteer Programme and the UEFA EURO 2020 Volunteer Programme?

During EURO 2020 Amsterdam there are two different volunteer programmes: the City Host Volunteer Programme and the UEFA EURO 2020 Volunteer Programme. Both have the same objective: to offer all volunteers an unforgettable experience.

The City Host Volunteer Programme focuses on all activities that take place in the city of Amsterdam between June 12 and July 12, 2020. The fans will gather and side events will be organized in various places in the city. We want to welcome everyone with open arms for an unforgettable football experience in our city.

The UEFA EURO 2020 Volunteer Programme focuses on all volunteers in the Johan Cruijff ArenA (plus one kilometer perimeter) and all volunteers who are active in the International Broadcast Center (at the Expo in Haarlemmermeer).

The registration is planned to be open until the end of December 2019. If there are plenty of registrations, it may close earlier.

Can I sign up with someone else?

Can I sign up with someone else?

No, you cannot register together. Would you like to cooperate as a volunteer with a friend? Then state this in the "comments" section at the end of the registration form and choose the same preferred roles. We will do our best to schedule you together as much as possible.

Can I sign up for both volunteer programmes?

No, it is not possible to sign up for both programmes.

Does registering give me a guaranteed spot on the City Host Volunteer Programme?

Does registering give me a guaranteed spot on the City Host Volunteer Programme?

No, registering does not guarantee you a spot. It does show that you're motivated, which is an important criterion. Selection interviews will take place in the Autumn of 2019 (these will not be necessary for everyone). After these interviews, everyone will be informed if they have been selected for the City Host Volunteer Programme.

What does a coordinating role entail?

During the work there will be a coordinator per group of volunteers. This person ensures that everyone can perform his or her work optimally. The coordinator is the first point of contact for the volunteers and also ensures, for example, the coordination of breaks.

What is a shift?

What is a shift?

A shift is a specific role for a specific period per day.

For example: Host / hostess - 9 am to 4 pm.

It is expected that each volunteer will be available for at least four shifts between June 12 and July 12, 2020.

What kind of work is available in the preparation phase?

What kind of work is available in the preparation phase?

Before EURO 2020 can start on June 12, a lot has to be done. You can also fulfill a role in this. For example, help organize the selections, training sessions or help us during the build-up.

Why do I need a Certificate of Good Conduct?

Why do I need a Certificate of Good Conduct?

A certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG) is a document by which the Dutch State Secretary for Justice and Security declares that the applicant has not committed any criminal offences that are relevant to the performance of his or her duties. A VOG may be requested for dealing with certain target groups during EURO 2020. This is not necessary for all functions during EURO 2020.

What are the terms and conditions?

What are the terms and conditions?

As of May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG) applies. This means that from that date the same privacy legislation applies throughout the European Union (EU).

A Bunch of Choices is working within the framework of EURO 2020 on behalf of the Municipality of Amsterdam to implement the volunteer programme. A Bunch of Choices needs the requested data in order to provide all volunteers with information in the right way, to make a correct classification and to be able to respond. The data is only stored by A Bunch of Choices until December 31, 2020. For EURO 2020, A Bunch of Choices works together with Deedmob. They use the data for the planning toolkit and save this data until July 31, 2020. The data is not shared with other third parties. The data is stored by the Municipality of Amsterdam, A Bunch of Choices and Deedmob and are deleted on specified dates.

Photos and video recordings

Photographers and videographers appointed by the organization will take photos and video recordings during EURO 2020. Every volunteer automatically agrees with this without any form of compensation and gives A Bunch of Choices and the Municipality of Amsterdam permission to take these photos and video recordings. These recordings may contain images of visitors and volunteers, to be used after the event and to promote volunteering for future events, without any form of liability.

Future events

Following the end of EURO 2020, the Municipality of Amsterdam may approach you once for volunteering during events taking place within the Municipality of Amsterdam. For this purpose, the Municipality of Amsterdam has access to your data and stores your full name and email address until July 21, 2021.

No. The selection interview is not necessary for everyone. This depends on various factors, such as the preferences that you have provided.

As a volunteer you will not receive free EURO 2020 tickets or get priority over EURO 2020 tickets. Do you want to get tickets? You can sign up to buy tickets via: https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/ticketing/. The UEFA EURO 2020 application window will be open for a month from June 12, 2019 to July, 12 2019. All tickets will be allocated through a draw. You have an equal chance to get your tickets, regardless of when you submit your application.
